Textile Conservation

We help tell stories

Your family christening gown. The quilt on display at a local history museum. A flag carried into battle during the Civil War. Each of these textiles tells a story about our personal and collective past. And each story brings meaning to our present.

Founded in 1999, Museum Textile Services is one of just a handful of independent conservation studios that specialize in preserving textiles that are under the care of private individuals, cultural heritage institutions, and government agencies.

Museum Textile Services is a trusted resource for education and information on the care and display of textiles of personal and cultural significance.

Customer service is our priority

We place an emphasis on customer service together with the highest standard in textile conservation, including:

We are here for you

Depending on your needs, we provide the following services:

  • Analysis & documentation
  • Wet and dry cleaning
  • Stabilization
  • Mounting for display
  • Framing
  • Archival storage

The first step of any conservation project is an assessment and conservation report. The conservation report fee is $300, at the time of delivery of the textile to our studio in Andover, MA. This is a crucial way for our clients to understand the history and technology of their textiles, and that our treatment options and recommendations are thorough and clear. Additional charges are incurred if we travel to perform the assessment.
